Louveciennes by Camille Pissarro This is actually a Cezanne painting and not a Pissarro. Cezanne copied a lot of Pissarro's work during their 'apprenticeship' years together in Auvers. The two paintings in fact look very similar excepting the artists' different styles. Your website provides both Cezanne and Pissarro's versions of "Louveciennes" but labeled Cezanne's piece as Pissarro's. I am taking a class on Cezanne, in Aix-en-Provence, and we literally just looked at these two pieces side-by-side on slides. Hope this helps!

Cinderella at the Kitchen Fire by Thomas Sully Thomas Sully Cinderella at the kitchen fire 1843,oil on canvas,Gift of the Pauline Allen Cill foundation.
I like this art.
In the late 1830s, in response to financial problems, Thomas Sully began to create "fancy pictures" of literary and sentimental subjects for the open market. This painting-one of the largest and most successful of them-illustrates the fairy tale "Cinderella
This art is about Cinderella and her cat. She had a cat on her lap. she was looking at the cat and facing each other seems like she was trying to tell something to the cat. One hand she was holding the cat and other hand she put her hand on her lap. The color of this art is soft, light, and dark. light green and golden was everywhere on left side right side and on her cloth. In right side there were little bit maroon, orange on the people cloth who were standing and talking each other. cat had white and in back side little bit brown color. The art look like smooth because the way she wear the cloth. she wore the cloth look like light and easy and she was sitting on box comfortable. The art is in balance and the size is Height: 130.18 cm (51.25 in.), Width: 147.96 cm (58.25 in.). In right side there is a fire burning and pot is laying on the side, Cinderella was sitting in the middle and in left side people are looking at mirror, talking and standing. on the back side of this art is dark and black. This art is triangular shape and right side there is column from the bottom to up, next to this column there is open that people can walk here and there which means this is open art. The focal area of this art was she was putting her head down to cat and artist put the light on her whole part head to body as well as the cat. |

newport coast by William Trost Richards Dear Athenaeum,
In Barbara Novak's American 19th-Century Painting, your painting "Newport Coast" is listed, on page 93, as John F. Kensett's "Third Beach, Newport." You have it as from the hand of William Trost Richards. The Art Institute of Chicago claims that it is theirs and the title is "Near Newport." Has it changed hands and has the assignation of its authorship been changed? The Art Institute also says that it is signed lower right with the monogram "JFK 69."
Thanks for your help.
Sincerely,

Still Life, Roses with Bumble Bees by Paul M. DeLongpre Hi, I don't know about any errors or misspellings. I just want to say that I have a copy of this painting or watercolor. I think it's dated 1899. I have another companion picture that is the same basket with lilacs and bees facing the other direction. They are in the tiger striped wooden frames. I'm at work now and I will look at the dates again when I return home. But I'm pretty certain it has his name and 1899 on both of the pictures. They are not oil paintings. I thought they may have been prints, but there is some kind of what looks like flaking of the paint on the leaves of the flowers. I'm wondering if they are of any value. I love them, so I'm not really interesting in selling them anyway. My mother found them years ago at a flea market and she had wanted the frames for her stitchwork. I saved them for myself as they were. Thank you for any info. Loretta Smith, Hillsborough,NC 27278 |

French Lugger Reefing Sail by Harry Aiken Chase This painting is listed as by Harry Aiken Chase. However, I believe this is in error. I do believe it is a painting by Harry Chase, but by Henry Seymour Chase who went by the nickname Harry. The subject matter is certainly what Harry Chase would have painting and the style certainly looks like his. The same goes for the other "Harry Aiken Chase" painting here. I believe it is by Harry Chase. |
Hillside in the Fall by John Elwood Bundy I would be the last one to tell you there were errors or omissions. I am writing to find out the value of this painting.
I have a very similiar painting, oil on canvas, by Mr. Bundy, signed and dated 1899. It is the same size as your example, mine is in the original frame. The frame is not in perfect condition, but would be classified as good to very good.
I would appreciate it if you could get back to me at the above e-mail address. Thank you. Terry Burke |

Quilting Bee by Henry Mosler Hello,
I love your site, and appreciate your mission. I tried to open a membership, but for some reason, couldn't connect to your database.
I had questions about the art, "Quilting Bee" by Henry Mosler. I'm sure it's in the public domain, but have not been able to verify any details.
(1) By any chance would you know if there would be any copyright restrictions to using this painting on a book cover (it would be one of 4 images on the cover). The book is a research project being done by a quilting guild in Chambersburg, PA to document quilts of the area (Franklin County, PA) going back to the 1700s. It's doubtful that they would ever realize a profit from the endeavor, but still a possibility.
(2)Would you have a larger image available - the one for downloading is only 2.5 inches? If not, would you know if rocsdad (the member who uploaded it) might have that.
I might be interested in a painted reproduction if given no access to the original image, However, I did not see any specifics on your site regarding costs, delivery time, etc.
I have seen some information regarding the ownership of this art (Mrs Jack Skirball of Beverly Hills) on the Smithsonian site, but am not sure if either has any say over usage or can provide image files.
Many thanks for any information you can provide.
Best of Luck,
Gerry Schrenk |
